Training by Mischievous Me

e think about doing a thing – to others or ourselves – that goes against our training. We know to do the right thing, maybe even want to. Most of the time it is what we do. Once in a while, a thought from who else? – mischievous me – enters our mind. It’s tempting.

We know the consequences. We know the price. And in our minds we experience a thrill of excitement. Most of the time, it is just ruminating about doing the thing and imagining how it would feel. Chew on that! It may leave a bitter taste.

Hopefully the thought is a fleeting one, lasting only a moment. If you live your life without intended drama, it’s well, dramatic!

Employee in need of training runs to hug boss.
Even “mischievous me” wouldn’t do this… or would she?

That potential drama may scare you back to your senses. Your skills in critical thinking, common sense, mindfulness, self awareness, the rent payment due at the end of the month, and possible loss of your freedom bring you back slowly, surely, and sanely.

Thinking about that price (it could be never-ending) helps bring you back. It might take a little bit of discipline, practice, and belief in yourself, but it can be done.

Hopefully. all that home training, military training (eyes right!), driver’s training (eyes on the road!), toilet training (you know!)… life training weighs in. The price for the mischief or mayhem you had in mind might just be a little too much to bear today or tomorrow.

Well, it was a thought. It brought a little bit of pleasure and cost nothing.

Kōhai… Kōhai!

Note: This very funny image of the employee putting his job and freedom in jeopardy is the only page I saved from a tear-off desk calendar. I am not a robot the author.

    1. Thank you. Yes, it's a most tender moment in my life over 30 years ago! The photo is an old Polaroid print that's gracefully aged like me. 🌹
