Can the ritual of halloween really have meaning after this year of great loss and pain to the world? I was never a fan of such activities at anytime in my life. Life has been too real for me to recreate any kind of horror, real or imagined, for the fun of it. And whose ritual is it anyway? It is taught to children to be important. I have made a costume or two for my nephew in the name of halloween and Comic-con.
Paradoxically, it is even more important to grown folk. Sadly, wearing a halloween costume to work is another unwelcome, unwritten part of the job description that’s understood by everybody but you, until it’s too late. Then, you’re regarded as uncooperative and a pariah. Now that’s your costume!
However you observe this day, please keep in mind the daily horrors of the times. Be helpful and be hopeful. That’s halloween enough for me.
Be safe and wear ’em if you got ’em.*
